Acknowledgement of Country

STILL HERE acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, work and create, and their continuing connection to land, waters, sky and community. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Dot art of Umbarra, the black duck, on the lake beneath Gulaga mountain
From Yuin Country

Umbarra, the black duck

STILL HERE was founded by a proud Yuin man. Yuin Country stretches along the New South Wales South Coast, from the mountains to the sea, and watching over it is Gulaga, our mother mountain. On the lakes below lives Umbarra, the black duck, a totem of the Yuin people.

Our old people tell how Umbarra kept watch over the water and warned the mob when danger was coming, so they could keep each other safe. Umbarra has never stopped looking out for us. Through everything our people have lived through, Umbarra is still on the water, and we are still here.

  • Keep watchNotice when a mate, a cousin or a fellow responder goes quiet.
  • Call outSpeak up early. Asking "are you okay?" can be the warning that keeps someone safe.
  • Come homeLike Umbarra returning to the lake, you can always find your way back to culture, family and Country.

Umbarra is the heart of why we do this. We're here to be that voice on the water for each other.

Still here, together

A short look at who STILL HERE is for and what we do. Turn the sound on to hear the didgeridoo, kookaburras and bush birdsong.

Video transcript, with didgeridoo music and bush birdsong throughout: STILL HERE. Culture, Connection, Hope. Still here. Still moving forward. Culture, Country and connection, at the heart of it all. On Country: connected to Country, strong in culture, still here. A kangaroo hops, an emu walks and a goanna crawls across the land in dot-art style, leaving their tracks, as kookaburras laugh. Who we're here for: for mob, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. For men, blokes, dads, sons and mates. For responders, and the families who stand behind them. An echidna wanders past. Peer support, a yarn with someone who gets it: support from someone who listens without judgement, guidance working through the next steps, and connection to culturally safe services. A turtle swims by. The STILL HERE app, free: a pocket of calm, whenever you need it. Dadirri, box breathing, after the shift. Every story matters. Including yours. A kangaroo and an emu stand either side. Talk with someone who gets it. Free peer callbacks, Australia-wide. Not a crisis line. In danger call 000, or 13YARN on 13 92 76.
Who we're here for

Everyone carries something

STILL HERE started with a yarn between mates and mob. It's for anyone doing it tough, and we especially want to reach the people who find it hardest to put their hand up.

  • Mob

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Culture, Country and connection are at the heart of everything we make. Have a yarn with someone who understands, in a space that's culturally safe.

  • Men

    Blokes, dads, sons and mates

Too many men keep it to themselves until it's too heavy to carry. Talking isn't weakness. Checking in on a mate, or letting one check in on you, can change everything.

  • Emergency services

    Responders and their families

Paramedics, police, firefighters, SES and rural fire volunteers, triple zero call-takers, nurses and everyone who runs towards the hard stuff. You look after everyone else, so let someone look after you. That goes for your families too.

  • Veterans

Those who served and their families

Ex-serving and serving Australian Defence Force members, reservists, and the partners and kids who served alongside them at home. Coming home and transitioning out can be the hardest part. You stood up for us, so we're standing with you.
